This summer, Mtn Dew had a favorable showing with its Dew-S-A seasonal flavor. By combining (in theory) red, white, and blue Mtn Dew varieties into one beverage, the wizards of Pepsi Co. came up with a clever way to celebrate America and sugary beverages. I was sold. My only complaint was the fake sugar/ real sugar mix left an unwanted aftertaste.
When I saw a holiday spin on the same concept, I couldn’t wait to give it a try. I was so excited, in fact, that I didn’t even leave my local Target before cracking open my very first Mtn Dew Holiday Brew. Here comes the Mtn Dew Holiday Brew Review:
It’s good man. It’s real good. It’s the kind of good that makes you know that there is a Santa, and he brings you presents in November.
This beverage is full sugar and full flavor. The label advertises this drink as being the green of the classic Dew mixed with the red of Code Red to create some red and green holiday cheer. And it really accomplishes this goal quite nicely.
Ever since Code Red came out, I tried to force myself to like the variation, but it always tasted too thick and syrupy to me. Adding the traditional Dew to the Code Red really thins out the concoction, so not only does it taste great, but it has a smooth pour that flows right down the ole esophagus.
On to calories, whereas Dew-S-A with it’s blend of sweeteners only had 50 calories in a 12 oz can, Holiday Brew has 290 calories in a 20 oz bottle. That means Holiday Brew has about three times the calories as the summertime variety. It’s worth it, though. Every sweet, sweet sip is heavenly.
As if there wasn’t enough of a reason to love the holidays, Mtn Dew Holiday Brew is here to spread some holiday cheer. I’m here to drink it down and stock it up to keep a steady supply until next November.
