The final trailer for STAR WARS: The Force Awakens aired during halftime of Monday Night football this week and it was…good, real good. For those of you trying to stay spoiler free, I don’t believe that the trailer dropped any bombshell that would spoil certain plot points, except maybe one.
The following theory of mine could be viewed as a spoiler (if it turns out to be true) so you’ve been warned; possible spoiler ahead.
I think it’s fair to say that one of the coolest characters in the new movie is Kylo Ren. The dude just looks badass, and that triple light-saber he wields is equally badass. In the most recent trailer, we learn that Ren is following in the footsteps of Darth Vader, and might have a dark-side power that we haven’t seen shown in the six previous movies. The use of this power is what I believe may play a major plot point in the upcoming movie. Again this is just a theory…
star-wars-stormtrooper-trailer-boyegaIn the beginning of the trailer we see that the stormtrooper played by actor John Boyega crash lands on Tatooine and as the trailer plays out we see that he ends up working with the Rebels. What’s interesting is that there is a moment in the trailer where Oscar Isaac, a Rebel pilot, gives Boyega’s character a nudge or a pat right before Boyega is ready to go into battle for the Rebels.
At first glance, this nudge/pat may seem to be an act of encouragement like what players on the same sports team do. However, upon closer review, something sinister is going on. Watch their interaction in the clip below paying close attention to Boyega’s reaction after receiving the touch from Isaac’s character.
Boyega’s reaction to the nudge/pat is one of shock, disbelief, a faint recollection of something unsettling. Why would that be? I think I know.
Earlier in the trailer we see Kylo Ren using the force/dark-side to do something to Isaac’s character. To me, it looks like Ren is messing with Isaac’s character’s mind because Ren’s hand is over Issac’s character’s head/mind. What if the force/dark-side can be used to forcefully (no pun intended) change someone’s essence from good to bad? I’d argue that in the previous movies someone’s association to the dark or light side depended on a choice they made.
So my theory is this, Kylo Ren gets a hold of Isaac’s character and uses the force/dark-side to change him to the dark-side to do Ren’s bidding. Because Boyega’s character use to be a stormtrooper (who may have had interactions with Ren/been associated with the dark-side), and subsequently experienced an awakening to make him choose the light-side, can recognize that something is not right with Isaac’s character.
Again this is just a theory, but I think it might have some merit. Regardless of whether or not my theory is right, the trailer was spot on goodness all the way. My only complaint was that there was no JarJar (of course, I’m kidding).
Consume Review Repeat gives Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer #3 a 9 out of 10 stormtroopers getting blow to pieces (something that has been going on in all of the trailers).
