I just got back from watching the most hyped movie of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron. It felt like everywhere I looked I saw a billboard, a commercial, or a pop-up ad telling me to go see this movie – so I went – not because I was told to, but because I am a fan of the Avengers. If you would have asked me eight years ago if I was a fan I would have said no. It has been the Marvel movies (excluded those that came before Iron Man) that have fueled my interest in Marvel’s superheroes.

Not all of the Marvel movies that have come out since Iron Man have registered with me – most were good, some were ok, and one was meh (Thor: The Dark World). I thought the last Avengers movie teetered between being good and ok. It was basically a been-there-done-that alien invasion storyline, which wasn’t very unique. Where the first Avengers movie failed in telling a unique story – this one exceeded.

The storyline is engaging because the event that causes our heroes to be called into action is something that hasn’t been done in comic book movies that before. For our heroes, there are many twists and turns that challenge them and their methods for success. Some of the most enjoyable moments of the movie are seeing the team together interacting out of uniform. I never got the feeling that one of the team members was overlooked or that things got too messy in regards to storytelling because of the number of characters in it.

Walking into this movie, I knew it was going to be an action packed popcorn movie and it definitely delivered on that front. There was ton of action and explosions right from the get go. The pacing felt better in this movie rather than the last, although, there was a lull in the middle of the movie that slowed things down to a crawl. But for the most part, the movie was enjoyable with eye-appealing CGI, knock-your-socks-off action, and light-hearted humor. If I had to describe the movie in one word I would say – it was fun (oops, that was three).

Consume. Review. Repeat. gives the Avengers: Age of Ultron a eight out of ten Hulk-Busters.
