It was Labor Day and all the local pizza joints were closed for the holiday. I secretly thought, “Yes, now’s my time to strike.” Knowing that my wife was in the mood for pizza, and that the local pizza places were closed, I asked, “What would you like for dinner, babe?” Like clockwork she responded, “Pizza.” I kept my excitement contained as I explained to her our pizza options. She did a bio-scan of me like a Terminator looking for any hint that I had secretly planned for Pizza Hut to be our meal. My stone-face expression did not waiver. She nodded. My time had finally come. Finally, I’d be able to have Pizza Hut and possibly convince my wife of its deliciousness. There was only one problem – my wife likes options with her pizza – usually breadsticks and other additions. Then I remembered the Pizza Hut ad for the $5 Flavor Menu I’d seen while selecting my Fantasy Football team. A grin slowly developed across my face.
The Possibilities Were Endless
Knowing that it was my time to shine, I jumped on the internet scanning the value menu. Instantly, I was surprised by how many options were available for me to pick from, and the variety of options. If you’re like my full-blooded Italian family, then you know how important it is to have tasty, garlic and cheese, smothered breadsticks. But wait, not one, but two orders of breadsticks can be ordered for $5 – I did a fist-pump to the heavens. If your not into garlic and cheese there were other types of breadsticks available that I didn’t even know Pizza Hut had; such as, asiago, red pepper, parmesan, and cheddar.
The next option I selected, which ended up being a delicious treat that my wife couldn’t stop eating, were the stuffed garlic knots. Oh, goodness were those good. Think of your breadstick rolled into a ball and then jammed packed full of gooey mozzarella cheese. I usually get mozzarella sticks from pizza joints, but these knots are deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious, and have become my new favorite thing.
Next was the pizza, now my son like cheese pizza, and my wife and I like pepperoni. So we usually get a large pizza with half cheese and half pepperoni. A large half cheese, half pepperoni totals about $17 – $20 from the local guys that have really fake Italian names like Giogiolio Pizza (I made that up, but you get the idea). In contrast, one medium pizza only cost $5 off of the flavor menu. So what the heck, I order my 3 year-old son his own plain pizza and my wife and I our own pepperoni.
In fifteen minutes, my order of 2 orders of breadsticks, 1 order of knots, and two medium pizzas was ready to go, and the bonus, it cost me the same as one large pizza from the local guys. Cha-CHING! You seriously can’t beat that.
A Satisfying Smile From My Wife
At the end of our meal, my wife looked over at me and smiled as she grabbed a knot off of my plate. She didn’t have to say anything. I knew I did good, and maybe I convinced her of a new pizza place to try more often.
